आम तौर पर दोपहर का खाना खाने के बाद ज्यादतर लोगों को नींद आने लगती है। इस कारण काम भी प्रभावित होता है अब एक अध्ययन के बाद इसके कारणों का पता चला है। अध्ययन में बताया गया है कि दोपहर का खाना खाने के बाद दिमाग के काम करने की क्षमता धीमी हो जाती है। अध्ययन में शामिल लोगों ने इस बात की पुष्टि की है कि ग्लूकोज और शुगर के सेवन के बाद किसी कार्य में उनके ध्यान और प्रतिक्रिया में कमी आ जाती है।
अध्ययन में शामिल कुछ लोगों ने जहां ग्लूकोज और शुगर का सेवन किया। वहीं कुछ लोगों ने फ्रक्टोज और आर्टिफिशल स्वीट चीजों का सेवन किया जिसके बाद देखा गया कि फ्रक्टोज का सेवन करने वाले लोगों के मुकाबले ग्लूकोज और शुगर के सेवन करने वाले लोगों का उनके काम में ध्यान नहीं लग रहा था। साथ ही किसी चीज पर उनकी प्रतिक्रिया देने की क्षमता में भी कमी देखी गई।
हालांकि, इससे पहले एक अध्यान में यह कहा गया था कि ग्लूकोज के सेवन से चीजों को याद रखने की क्षमता में सुधार आता है लेकिन नये अध्ययन ने इस बात को गलत साबित कर दिया है। ‘इस अध्ययन में लगभग 49 लोगों को शामिल किया गया है। इन सभी लोगों ने स्वीट ड्रिंक का सेवन किया जिसमें ग्लूकोज, सुक्रोज, फ्रक्टोज शामिल थे। इसके सेवन के बाद उन्हें सवाल हल करने के लिए दिये गये। परिणामों में सामने आया कि जिन लोगों ने ग्लूकोज और सुक्रोज का सेवन किया, उन्होंने उन लोगों के मुकाबले परीक्षा में बहुत खराब प्रदर्शन किया जिन्होंने फ्रुक्टोज का सेवन किया था।
