ताइवान की राष्ट्रपति ने कोरोना महामारी से मुकाबले के लिए उठाए गए देश के कदमों की तारीफ करते हुए कहा कि चीन के बेहद नजदीक होने के बावजूद इस द्वीपीय क्षेत्र में महामारी के चलते सिर्फ 800 मामलों की ही पुष्टि हुई और सात की मौत हुई है। इससे पहले ताइवान ने चीन के बढ़ते खतरे को लेकर सभी एशियाई देशों को आगाह किया था। उन्होंने चेताया था कि चीन को यदि नहीं रोका गया तो एशिया के दूसरे देश उसके निशाने पर आ जाएंगे। कोरोना वायरस के प्रसार पर रोकथाम के प्रयासों के लिए ताइवान की प्रशंसा होती रही है। चीन जहां महामारी की शुरुआत हुई, उससे सटे होने के बावजूद ताइवान में संक्रमण से सिर्फ सात लोगों की मौत हुई और 800 से अधिक लोग संक्रमित हुए। राष्ट्रपति ने कहा, ताइवान नई -नई औद्योगिक परियोजनाएं शुरू कर रोजगार पैदा कर रहा है और किसानों के लिए पेंशन देकर, आवास का निर्माण कर तथा नए स्कूल खोलकर अपने लोगों में निवेश कर रहा है।
